Orange Shirt Day in Victoria will be held in Centennial Square on Sunday September 30th this year. Last weekend our justice team collaborated with other churches to host a fund-raising pancake breakfast to assist Eddie Charley and Kristin Spray in their organization of Orange Shirt Day in September.  With pancakes and hospitality in abundance it was wonderful to see so many people come out and enjoy both.

Kristin, Eddie and I reflected together that the goal of Orange Shirt Day proper (reconciliation) was being realized even in the fundraising effort, as different people were gathered in community for a common purpose.

One definition of a miracle is this: “When we decide to do something of value, and protect it - that is, do everything we can to make it happen - then that can lead to unintended good consequences”.  The pancake breakfast fits that definition.  What began life as a worthwhile fundraiser had unintended good consequence of reconciliation in action, in conversation, in generosity and openness and increased awareness and understanding.

Many thanks to Rainbow Kitchen staff and volunteers for cooking up a storm and also to  local businesses and Victoria Presbytery for their financial support.
