Affirming Celebration

Sunday, September 7 was a very special day as we received our 'official' certificate announcing our recognition as an Affirming Congregation with the United Church of Canada.

On behalf of Affirm United/S'Affirmer Ensemble, Rev. Shelagh MacKinnon presented Rev. Martha Juillerat with our certificate as an Affirming Ministry.

Words of congratulations were heard from long-time member Jemi Jones and former minister Leanne Benoit.  Mention was made of the committee of Amy Campbell, Donna Ingram, Al Lindskoog and Jon Samson, with particular reference to Jon who was unable to attend as he was resting in hospice. (Although he would soon pass, his family had brought the service to his bedside through Zoom, where he was able to know that yes, indeed, we now have the certificate!)

Rev. Martha reminded us from Matthew 25 that we have the honour and calling to look after the 'little ones' in the Kin-dom of God.

The celebration continued with a special cake and coffee.

Thanks to everyone who, over many years, has carried the banner of inclusivity within our congregation.
